End of Life Care – The hardest part of loving an animal is knowing when to let them go.

What to Consider

Any time you are considering end-of-life care for your pet, we know that every decision matters – not one decision is taken lightly.

Dr. Latimer and our team are here to help you as you consider your pet’s condition.  We can talk through your options, as well as help facilitate informed decisions regarding palliative care and/or euthanasia.

Some questions to consider:

• Is your pet eating and drinking normally?
• Does your pet appear to be losing weight?
• Is your pet having difficulty moving?
• Is your pet experiencing unusual difficulty with bladder and/or bowel control?
• Does your pet seem to enjoy the same activities and interactions as in the past?

Euthanasia Procedure

As we strive to provide you and your pet with the most comfortable experience possible, our comfort room is reserved for euthanasia appointments.  We encourage you to bring a blanket, bed, or toy as a source of familiarity for you and your furry family member.

Whether or not you would like to be present with your pet during the euthanasia procedure is entirely up to you.  Each client is encouraged to make the decision that best fits their family.  We will take extra care to help you and your pet feel as comfortable as possible.

Aftercare

There are three options when considering aftercare for your pet’s remains.  We will help facilitate whichever option you choose.

• Home Burial
• Communal Cremation (no return of remains)
• Private Cremation (remains returned to you in the urn of your choosing)

Though easing your pet’s suffering is a kind and loving act, we recognize that you are carrying a heavy burden.  Please be patient and kind with yourself as you grieve.  Allow your other pets time to grieve as well.
